For those who aren’t aware I had the privilege of saying YES to Joe about 2 weeks ago on Saturday December 8, 2018, in the middle of our kitchen, with both the dogs around. For those of you who also aren’t aware of the relationship joe and I have had, this is a miracle.

3 years ago I fell hard for Joe but the feelings weren’t always as mutual as I had wished they would be.

~~Side note: Joe and I have known each other our whole lives. We went to the same Elementary -High School together, but never actually spoke just knew of each other. Come his senior year of high school, the cheerleaders pick a senior football player to basically spoil them for their senior season. Well it came down to Joe and another player, and myself and one other cheerleader. I was older so I got first pick and they showed me a picture of joe and he had this ATROCIOUS mullet, my immediate reaction was OH MY GOD absolutely not, and picked the other dude. Who would’ve known by the end of that same year, I’d be doing all I could to be with this guy.

Back to the original story:

With me still in high school, joe preparing to leave for the Army and our maturity levels at an all time low, most of our nights spent together we’re being completely drunk at parties- you can imagine things were not as they were supposed to be. About a year went by and we had gone to the same graduation party- me in a new relationship at this point, and getting ready to move out to college, and joe not really knowing what he wanted. Feelings were noticed, but we still went our separate ways. We had texted and spent time together in a group of people, going to visit another friend at college, attending his dads wedding, a Halloween party etc. At this point, the relationship I was in had ended and joe and I had been talking more. I had been coming home from school to visit him, both of us realizing we wasted a lot of time being apart. We started dating (officially) for the first time (ever), November 4, 2016 after a LONG LONG LONG talk. Then fast forward a year to November 2017, I was packing my bags at college and moving into Joe’s apartment. We get our puppy Rocky, in the same month. Then 2 months later we’re looking at houses. April 2018 we move into our first home together. July 2018 we get ANOTHER puppy Tucker. Now here we are December 2018 ENGAGED! Life with joe so far has been nothing but a rollercoaster. And I can’t wait to continue this life with him and become a Martorano.

If you ask my friends from high school, they’d be telling you all my dreams have come true. I had a gut feeling I’d always end up with joe (and I think he felt the same but was too stubborn to admit it) but something about him just always  felt right no matter how things were between us. I’ve learned from him, I’ve grown from him, I’ve felt heartbreak, and true love all from the same person and I wouldn’t want to experience that any other way. We couldn’t be any more opposite or anymore the same. We both share a fun, entertaining, and by far the two most stubborn personalities. He keeps me calm, he keeps me collected, and (pretends to) listen to all I have to talk about. He makes sure I do what I want and make decisions for myself, and my life- when at times I have a problem with just “settling.” With me being completely impatient, and hard headed, I’ve decided 9 months is PLENTY of time to wait any longer at becoming his wife, so September 2019 we will start a brand new journey together. This is JUST the beginning and I can’t wait to see the story we have to tell 50, 60, and many more years from now. Cheers to becoming a Martorano!
